World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev will take on Kazakhstani player Alexander Bublik in his first-round match at the French Open 2021. The match is scheduled for tomorrow, May 31. It will be the second match of the day session and will be played on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Daniil Medvedev vs Alexander Bublik: Preview

At Roland Garros, Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev has had an awful record. In his previous four attempts, he has never gone past the first round in Paris. Recently, he played in Madrid and Rome but did not show any signs of encouragement.

On the other hand, Alexander Bublik has played a number of tournaments on the clay courts this season. Although he has been inconsistent with his performances, he has registered wins over players like Denis Shapovalov and Aslan Karatsev in Madrid.

Medvedev vs Bublik: Head-to-Head

Both players have faced each other once. They met in 2016 during the Round of 32 matches at the tournament held in St. Petersburg, Russia. The match was played on the indoor hard court and Daniil beat Bublik comfortably in straight sets, 6-4 6-0.

Medvedev vs Bublik: Prediction

Although Medvedev got the win over Bublik in the past, it was some time ago. Since the clay courts are the Russian player’s least preferred surface, it will not be an easy route for him. His poor record at Roland Garros will be playing on his mind.

If at all Bublik has to come out on top, he needs to bring his best game to the court. To beat Daniil on the clay courts would be a relatively easier task than facing him on other surfaces.

However, to be able to beat a World No. 2 in a best of five sets match is a different challenge than the best of three sets matches. Which player gets off to a good start will be key towards the outcome of the result in their meeting at the French Open 2021.

Prediction: Daniil Medvedev to win in four sets.
