Formula 1’s Managing Director, Ross Brawn, believes that it is important to maintain a healthy Ferrari relationship, but only to a certain point.
The team has recently voiced their concerns, as have other constructors, against the proposed 2021 engine regulations. To to give a weight to the seriousness, it included a threat to quit the sport. The team is also the only constructor to have participated in every season since 1950. So you can see why this is a big deal.

Many believe that it will be against the interest of the sport and its fans is Ferrari actually quits. Ross Brawn recognises it:

“Of course we do not want to lose Ferrari. Ferrari benefits from formula one and formula one benefits from Ferrari. They are an important part of Formula 1 and we must respect and listen to them.”
But he also made it very clear that Formula 1 management is going to hold its position and not kowtow before Ferrari:
“… Every partnership has limits. So it’s a matter of what they can accept, and what we can accept. We want to find solutions that keep everyone in Formula One, and above all we don’t want to lose any iconic teams.”

In other words, it is a dilemma for Formula One as there is a conflict of interest between the direction Formula One is going and also the teams. But despite the drama, we can be sure that an amicable solution can be reached where the top teams can accept the proposed changes. The teams must also realise that they are not in charge of the sport, Liberty Media and the FIA are.
