Former Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali underwent a difficult tenure at the helm of the Maranello team before joining Lamborghini as CEO. During his stint at Ferrari, Fernando Alonso was still racing with them. Domenicali was present at Monza last weekend for the Grand Prix. When quizzed about Alonso’s situation at McLaren he said “It is clearly a difficult situation he is in. It’s not easy for him to make a decision. But Fernando certainly deserves the best – he’s very great, we all know that. I hope he can chose a good option and get it right because he deserves it.”

Although he was present at Monza, he was clearly happy with his non-F1 duties. But he remains committed to the FIA in the single seater commission. A source at the Formula One Group said “Stefano belongs in F1, and will return to F1,”. With Porsche potentially returning to Formula One as an engine supplier, can he realistically return to F1? Since Porsche and Lamborghini are owned by the Volkswagen group, there is a possibility of Domenicali being called up due to his prior experience in Formula One.
