Piers Morgan, the former host of the ITV Morning Show, is back with his dose of controversies. He took to Twitter to comment on the value of silver and bronze medals, and the former English footballer Gary Linekar firmly shut him down.

In a back and forth conversation that started with Morgan tweeting “Real sporting champions don’t celebrate coming 3rd,”?Linekar tagged the English broadcaster in a tweet that read, “Simpsons predicted Piers Morgan,” with an attached meme – “You’re forgetting what the Olympics are all about – giving medals of beautiful gold, so-so silver and shameful bronze.”

Piers, being his true self, responded by saying, “I don?t think Silver and Bronze medals are shameful, but no real champion would ever feel comfortable having one in their trophy cabinet.”

This response highlighted Piers’ misguided perspective on sports. Further, it showed how his refusal to recognize silver and bronze medals as an honor for champions originates from the fact that he does not have any experience in sports.

Morgan’s opposition: Linekar and Duhamel defend the sports community

Piers’ tweet opened the floodgates to massive backlash from the sports world, with several athletes giving him a reality check on the value of medals.

In a firm yet clever response to Piers, Linekar wrote, ?I suspect if you?d ever won a medal, of any description, in sport, you might feel differently.?

Among others, figure skater and bronze medalist in the 2018 Olympics, Meagan Duhamel chose to lash out at this comment from Piers.

Paddy Barnes, a former professional boxer and three-time Olympian, also took to Twitter to respond to Morgan’s comments. He said, “Piers, ill fight you for my Bronze medals.”

Each and every Olympic medal has considerable value, despite Piers having his own reasons to say what he said. Ever since the Olympics officially began in 1896, each medal has represented immense honor brought to the country by an athlete.

Therefore, no matter what anyone, including Piers Morgan, says, the sports world knows exactly what these medals mean, and the value of these medals will not, in any way, diminish because of anyone’s comments.
