Italian giants Juventus FC are arguably one of the best clubs in Europe. But despite their incredible history, Juve saw a massive dip last season as they finished at the fourth position in Serie A. In a rather disappointing season, Juve had a few positives though. One of them was the emergence of midfielder Weston McKennie.

McKennie who joined the record Italian champions back in 2020-21 season on loan, was brought in to add to the midfield depth to the Italian giants. Coming off the bench, the American initially struggled to get a starting role for Juve.

But the 22-year-old was impressive in the limited time he was given. Slotted in on a rather stagnant Juventus midfield, the McKennie created chances and added dynamism to Pirlo’s system. He also chipped in with 6 goals and 2 assists for Juve and certainly showed his class.

Max Allegri gives 10-goal target for Weston McKennie

Shortly after the completion of the Euros, Juventus have finally started off their pre-season. While star players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Giorgio Chiellini are yet to make their return, Weston McKennie is in the roster.

Starting off against Cesana, the American’s pre-season got off to a fantastic start. While he only played a single half, McKennie assisted a goal and successfully scored one as well. The 22-year-old’s goal was certainly impressive as he showed incredible dribbling skills and dispatched a lethal shot.

New manager Massimiliano Allegri was all praises for the American’s goal. Excited after seeing McKennie’s strike, Allegri even shouted in the sidelines, “You’ve got to score 10 goals this season!’”

The American certainly put on a show controlling the game for Juve. Given his incredible all-round ability, the 22-year-old can be a valuable starter for Allegri. In the last season Pirlo generally used a trio of either Rodrigo Bentancur, Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot or a four-man system of Rabiot, Arthur along with Chiesa and Kulusevski.

But these lineups had a big problem as they lacked a dynamic box-to-box midfielder. McKennie can be the prefect solution for Allegri for the upcoming season. Given the season he is coming off of, the American deserves a starting role in the new-look Juventus side. Will Allegri use the 22-year-old American as a starter this season?
