Chelsea might be having one of the quietest transfer windows so far but considering the signing they brought in last season namely Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech, ‘the Blues’ might not need a big name transfer this season.

While Werner and Havertz did not have the best numbers, they did leave their mark on the team last season. Ahead of the 2021-22 season, Chelsea might be willing to take a chance at the duo.

Kai Havertz and Timo Werner impress in pre-season game against Arsenal

Facing off against a Mikel Arteta led Arsenal side in a pre-season game, Thomas Tuchel has named a rather exciting starting lineup led against the Gunners. Putting his faith on the German duo and Christian Pulisic, Chelsea hoped that they had enough firepower to break Arsenal’s defense.

While the Gunners dominated the game initially creating some chances, they failed to capitalize. Playing a high line defense with high pressing, the Londoners tried to put pressure on Tuchel’s side. But Chelsea certainly weathered the storm.

In the 25th minute of the game while Arsenal continued pressing the Chelsea mid-field, Ziyech and Mateo Kovacic combined and ultimately found a fantastic pass for Werner. With Arsenal’s high line defense, the German duo found themselves in a 2 versus 3 situation.

Werner used his rapid pace to progress through the field. While he could have tried to dribble past Pablo Mari, the German delivered a perfect through pass for his fellow German forward Kai Havertz.

The former Bayer Leverkusen forward made no mistake as he dispatched a lethal shot to the top corner. Tuchel and Co. ultimately won the game 2-1. While Chelsea have a loaded side with attackers, starting the duo of Havertz and Werner might be promising.

Not only the duo gives ‘the Blues’ pace, they add finesse and physicality as well. Given Havertz’s all-round ability coupled with Werner’s electrifying pace can be a lethal combination. Will Tuchel be willing to give the German duo a chance to prove themselves?
