Gini Wijnaldum was one of the best players at Liverpool, and the Scousers will always remember his goals that knocked Barcelona out in their run to the UEFA Champions League title. Wijnaldum recently moved to PSG on a free transfer as the French club is trying to win the UCL for the first time.
However, he revealed how his experience was with social media as he sat down in an interview with The Telegraph. He also talked about his unceremonious exit from the English club and hinted at the reason why the club owners might be the reason for his departure.
“There was a moment when I didn’t feel loved and appreciated,” he says. “Not my teammates, not the people at Melwood. From them, I know. I can say they all love me, and I love them. It was not from that side, more the other side.”

However, this wasn’t the only problem, as Wijnaldum also talked about the impact social media had on his mind. The Dutch midfielder revealed how he received hate from the Liverpool fans and differentiated the fans on social media from the fans in the stadiums.
“My feeling was that the fans in the stadium and the fans on social media were two different kinds. The fans in the stadium always supported me,” he revealed.
“On social media, if we lost, I was the one who got the blame. There was a moment when I was like, ‘Wow. If they only knew what I was doing to stay fit and play every game’.”

Wijnaldum talked about how his contractual issues contributed to him getting hate on social media. The fans blamed him for the losses and accused him of wanting more money. The most recent example of this was when club legend Jamie Carragher posted a tweet on Twitter.
I love Gini but this is not right, social media is a circus & every club has clowns. Turn off your notifications & if it’s bothering you that much delete the app! He wanted more money the club said no, that’s football! https://t.co/NNmiyFXYBY
