Conor McGregor is still not fond of his memories of UFC 229. Everyone knows the infamous rivalry that emerged between Team Conor and Team Khabib. ‘The Eagle’ ended up winning their bout but in the end, it looked like that wasn’t enough for him. A lot of things unfolded as the fight took itself outside of the Octagon. Which, chronologically speaking, is where it truly started.

Before the fight ever came to be, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor feuded outside of the cage. The group of Irishmen took it upon themselves to attack a bus carrying several UFC fighters including Khabib Nurmagomedov. The target was obviously ‘The Eagle’. It looked like Nurmagomedov did not forget this attack after he secured his win over ‘The Notorious’.

Khabib Nurmagomedov competed against McGregor in front of a crowd full of Irishmen and his own teammates from Dagestan. In the fourth round of the bout, just a few minutes before the clock called for the final round, Nurmagomedov got himself into the perfect chokehold. McGregor was forced to tap out and the fight was called off.

But it wasn’t quite finished yet. Nurmagomedov would go on to launch his mouthpiece in rage while pointing at someone on McGregor’s side. He then launched himself into the crowd and attacked one of McGregor’s teammates. This teammate was none other than the semi-notorious Dillon Danis himself. The UFC staff quickly jumped to action to hold Nurmagomedov down.

But it wasn’t the end yet, soon the Dagestani fighter’s older brother, Magomed, jumped into the cage and attacked McGregor. It ended with McGregor punching him brutally in the face. The fighter recently recalled the incident with words full of spite: “Dead rats in the swamp.” The caption clearly indicates that his hatred toward the Dagestani fighter and his team still burns bright red after five years.

McGregor surely lost that fight but is his spirit forgiving? ‘The Notorious’ is not known for being too kind to people online. The verbal spats between him and Nurmagomedov have, over time, become some sort of a spectacle. Now, his former opponent has retired leaving no space for revenge.

What went down during the match?

The match ended pretty anti-climatically for Nurmagomedov who later told the press he was expecting a bigger fight. McGregor tapped out in the third round. Nurmagomedov sent a message to him saying, “how can you tap? Go to sleep.” It was all because of the beef between them. McGregor had flown in so many of his friends from Ireland, the Dagestani fighter felt like it was a disgrace to tap out after so much hype building.
