The companies have promoted diversity, and this has caused a sharp rise in the number of females in the world of gaming. Along with that, developers have also empowered women by creating strong female characters to lead massive franchises. So it was just a matter of time before it also happens in the latest iteration of the most popular sports franchise in FIFA 22.

Recently, fans of the celebrated football franchise received some major news with a change in the commentary box. The series launched in 1993, and over the years the titles have improved dramatically by implementing new technologies. However, it took the developers almost 28 years for them to have the series’ first ever English-speaking female commentator.

Alex Scott joins the FIFA 22 commentary team

Recently, EA announced that there will be a change in the commentary box for FIFA 22. The franchise’s latest title will introduce former Arsenal and England star Alex Scott as the goal commentator. She will replace long time goal commentator in former Scottish footballer Alan McInally. She will provide updates to other games happening during a player’s match, while Derek Rae and Lee Dixon provide the in-game commentary.

Alex Scott joins the franchise as the first-ever English-speaking female commentator. Last year, EA announced some major changes in the commentary booth by replacing popular duo in Martin Tyler and Alan Smith with Rae and Dixon. Along with that, FIFA 21 also introduced the franchise’s first ever female commentator with the addition of Nira Juanra in the Spanish commentary team.

Alex Scott ecstatic at her entry in the gaming commentary world

Following the announcement, Alex Scott took to Twitter to express her excitement in joining the iconic football franchise. She played as a Right Back for celebrated London club, Arsenal in the FA WSL. Additionally, she also has 140 appearances for the England National Team, and two years ago, she was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame. Following her retirement, she began her punditry career, and she has worked at BBC Sport and Sky Sports. During this time, she has covered tournaments like the FIFA World Cup 2018 and the English Premier League as well.

The addition of Alex Scott is a massive step in the right direction to promote diversity in the beautiful game. Recently, female players and pundits have gained a lot of popularity in the world of football.
