Eleven years ago, the fast-paced half-court game, the brainchild of former FIBA general secretary, journeyed throughout the world, garnered new fans of the game, and attracted more international prospects and talent. And now it is celebrating its 100th Masters in Amsterdam, a new city to join the list of amazing destinations where the Masters have been organized.
Adding Amsterdam to the list makes it even more special. Not only is it the new destination, but it’s also the destination of the 100 masters. The FIBA 3×3 Amsterdam Masters will take place from October 6 to October 7. The FIBA 3×3 Basketball World Championship has proven itself to be the force of nature in basketball, with ever-growing popularity and fans.
A Brief History of 3×3

The fast-paced half-court game was the brainchild of former general secretary Patrick Baumann. The streetball version of the game inspired him to create FIBA 3×3. With some changes and alterations in the rules of the game, it was out for trial internationally and was an immediate hit. The game was trialed in several events worldwide.
It was officially launched at the Youth Olympics in Singapore in 2010. From the very start, the fast-paced half-court game became popular among fans worldwide. It helped expand the reach and popularity of basketball to new heights.

An Overview of 3×3
After its launch in the Youth Olympics and becoming a massive hit it was launched into a professional league. It was dubbed a world tour where people from all over the world would compete for prize money. The first ever masters took place in Sao Paulo in July 2012, the debut season comprised six events with the final taking place in Miami. The World Tour was a massive success and expanded rapidly.

This year has been significant and exploded in scale. The 2023 season is comprised of 17 masters followed by World Tour final in Jeddah. 3×3 has been granted an Olympic status which helps it attract so much more international talent. It has been a journey of immense growth and improvement throughout the hundred masters. It is a historic milestone which will be celebrated in Amsterdam.
