The 37-year-old Swiss great, Roger Federer is constantly been interrogated upon when will he call off his career. After his Nike sponsorship got expired Federer contracted an endorsement for a 10-year deal with Japanese sports sponsors Uniqlo. Many of his fans assumed it to be a strategy applied for the promotion at the upcoming Olympic Games. However, there were interrogations regarding the timespan of the contract. Federer had still not decided whether he would participate in the 2020 Olympics or not. Which indicates his retirement from tennis before his 40th birthday.
“The Tokyo goal? It’s not really in my mind,” Federer said. This is not an objective in itself, as in London or Rio. At the time, people thought that I would stop my career before 2012. I had already said at that time that I wanted to continue playing, it was the same for Rio. It’s true it can be amazing to play in Tokyo, but I’m not really focused on it.” His early exits from the Wimbledon and the US Open this year has shaken his fans globally. Nevertheless, Federer looks forward to facing Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in his future matches and stays excited to play the top-ranked men. He believes that playing the best players brings out the best within him.
Apart from his on-court movements, Federer enjoys his off-court life as well. He enjoys the press conferences, other charitable work in respect to tennis. As he says, “You don’t want to hang around just to hang around. If you put everything in there, you actually enjoy what you’re doing – I enjoy the practices, I enjoy press conferences, I enjoy shining a light on Andy’s foundation or the charitable work that tennis players do – it’s a wonderful thing”. In a nutshell, the Swiss maestro has rejoiced in every dimension of tennis.
As far as the retirement accepts of Federer’s career is concerned, he will dwell on the professional circuit as long as his body supports him to do so. His family enjoys the most by seeing him play. There’s no better feeling in the world than seeing your loved ones happy. And Federer couldn’t find any reason to give up upon tennis. “So as long as my body holds up and all the other things are in place and my family is happy, I see no reason why to stop.”
