Lionel Messi is one of the greatest players of all time and he has broken all kinds of records in his career. This season, the Argentinian forward won his seventh Ballon d’Or, and there was a lot of promise for the rest of the season.
However, it all ended prematurely when Paris Saint Germain was knocked out of the Champions League by Messi’s archrivals, Real Madrid. He wasn’t able to contribute in any way, and despite Kylian Mbappe’s two goals, the French club will go another year without winning the UCL.
The reception that awaited the team at home was very hostile, as PSG fans booed Messi and Neymar Jr. during their league game against Bordeaux. Several people sent messages of support for Messi following that, including his former teammate, Luis Suarez.

Barca manager Xavi shares a message of support for Messi
Along with Suarez, FC Barcelona manager, Xavi, a former teammate of Messi, also sent a message of support to the Argentine. Xavi talked about the message in an interview and also complimented Real Madrid on their intensity in the UCL tie.
“I sent Messi a message of encouragement and support after the game against Real Madrid. This is football, after taking the lead, in 25 minutes, and because of the intensity and pressure of Real Madrid, everything changed,” Xavi said.

Lionel Messi and his drought in the UCL
Messi has won the UCL four times in his career, winning them all with FC Barcelona. However, the last time he won the biggest prize in club football was in the 2014-15 season. Ever since then, the Argentinian forward has seen several horrible performances from his club that saw them being knocked out of the competition.
Among many, Liverpool’s historic comeback at Anfield in the 2018-19 season, would have surely hurt a lot. However, that wasn’t the worst performance that Messi had seen at Barcelona. In the very next year, Barca was defeated by a rampant Bayern Munich with a scoreline of 8-2, in a single match.
