Have an interesting take?

In case you were wondering about the price, it’s $64.99 for a yearly subscription and $6-$20, depending on the event. It looks quite clear and sorted out as far as the streaming is concerned. However, the devil is in the details, and the news has thrown a tricky curveball for gymnastics lovers. They are not sure if the events will be available for free on YouTube or if there will be any future changes.

Most fans are waiting for more clarification

Most fans are surprised that there has been no mention of NBC, one of the prime platforms that cover these events. One Reddit user commented, “Wait. Are they saying nationals will be entirely free on YouTube and not on NBC?” The user got a reply, although the answer didn’t clear much. To his question, one Redditor replied that the USA Gymnastics has said that streams will be available internationally like it has been in previous years.

But the curveball was that the competitions listed for YouTube live-streaming are subject to change at NBC’s discretion. ENTER NBC, even though nobody knows whether NBC is picking up any tab or not. The confused Redditor ended the answer with, “Sounds like NBC hasn’t decided yet whether they’re airing anything.” This is not new about NBC.

In case NBC does eventually air some events, it will be the repeat of last year’s conundrum, as mentioned by a Redditor: “Last year they published something that accidentally implied that NBC wasn’t airing some big domestic meet (nationals, I think) and it turned out it was just sloppy phrasing.”

But that’s not all; the Redditor was detailed in his speculation regarding the broadcast, continuing to ponder what’s next. “But I do wonder if this means NBC isn’t carrying the events live and they’re airing edited versions later. In general, NBC has been cutting back on their coverage of Olympic sports.”

Everyone is skeptical about no mention of NBC. And more so because it’s surprising to provide everything free of charge on YouTube. One gymnastics fan on Reddit wanted to play the waiting game: “I’m wondering about the phrasing because it really does seem to imply entirely on YouTube. But since the article is only about streaming, we’ll probably have to wait until later to find out about broadcasting (unless someone directly asks them somewhere).”

One particular Redditor wasn’t exactly a fan of NBC picking up the streaming responsibilities this time. His disdain was quite evident in his comment: “Well, NBC usually does a terrible job with these meets, showing two routines in a half hour if we’re lucky. Remember the endless film of Simone getting her foot taped?”

If USA Gymnastics stays true to the announcements made, it will be great for all fans worldwide. Still, let’s not celebrate yet. Many big events are yet to come. These include the likes of the Winter Cup and the Nastia Liukin Cup. The US national championships are also fast approaching. Not only the fans, but the gymnasts also look forward to these competitions to showcase their talents.
