Inter Miami continues to live under a cloud of misfortune. In a bid to add firepower to their ranks, the Herons went all in to sign their long-term transfer target, Federico Redondo. But in an unfortunate turn of events, David Beckham‘s beloved soccer franchise faced a major setback in the youngster’s pursuit, as reports suggest that the deal collapsed at the last moment.
This update was recently made by journalist Pipi Novello, who tweeted, “Federico Redondo’s move to Inter Miami just fell through.” Even after agreeing to pay an $8 million fee to sign the son of Real Madrid legend Fernando Redondo, it looks like Tata Martino won’t be able to bring in the publicly anticipated signing from Argentinos Juniors. Notably, this isn’t the first time they have received such a blow in their transfer pursuit.
Earlier, Miami made attempts to sign Cristian Medina from Boca Juniors for $7.5 million, with Botafogo also in contention. However, Boca rejected Miami’s offer. Similarly, the Florida-based club pursued a loan deal for Agustin Palavecino with River Plate. But the deal fell through when Miami declined to include a buyout option since they only wanted a short-term replacement for Facundo Farias. On the other hand, this development spells good news for other parties.

Clubs across Europe, including Real Madrid, AC Milan, Liverpool, and Manchester United, had earlier expressed their interest in securing Federico’s services. Now they are poised to capitalize on this opportunity. Yet, the question still looms: how did the deal collapse, even after the Herons released its star player?

One of the biggest reasons why the deal collapsed could be due to MLS roster compliance. While Inter Miami faced penalties in 2020 due to player categorization errors, this time, it appears that general allocation money (GAM) posed a challenge. Although specifics remain unclear, it’s worth noting that over 10 players exceeded the club’s maximum budget charge last year. That explains why the club allowed their star midfielder, Gregore, to leave.
The 29-year-old, who had a contract with the Herons until 2025 after arriving in 2023, has been signed by Brazilian club Botafogo. Gregore, along with other high-budget players like Jean Mota, could aid Miami in adhering to budgetary constraints. Additionally, reports indicate that potential moves are being considered for DeAndre Yedlin, Robert Taylor, and Sergii Kryvstov, with a looming deadline of February 20th.
