The Supergiants are already without the services of Kevin Pietersen, who was ruled out earlier with a calf tear and du Plessis’s injury is expected to cause tension for the MS Dhoni led team.?Du Plessis is Supergiants’ second-highest run-scorer with 206 runs at an average of 34.33 in six matches. He scored consecutive fifties against Gujarat Lions and Kings XI Punjab, though both of them came in losing causes.
Faf Du Plessis ?tweeted, “And so my Ipl tournament unfortunately comes to and end. Broken finger and out for 6 weeks. Thanx India and @RPSupergiants it?s been fun.?
With opener Faf du Plessis being injured, the Supergiants have a major dent in their batting order. The latest injury setback is likely to force the Supergiants to seek their batting reinforcements. They have not named the replacement for Pietersen yet. Pune was somehow trying to get things back on track, having already lost their four games on a trot, they resurrected it with a win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday. Pune next play Gujarat lions which will be a tougher challenge with Faf out as well.
This Finger Injury will also keep him out for the start of the Tri-series involving hosts West Indies, Australia and South Africa which starts on June 3.
