F1: Williams Have the Slowest Car- Sirotkin

Sergey Sirotkin and the Williams F1 team had a miserable weekend at Canada with their failure to score any points due to Lance Stroll’s crash and the other car ending up outside the top ten.

But Sirotkin feels the problem is deeper than just driver performance. He is of the opinion that Williams need to understand that they have the slowest car on the 2018 grid.

Speaking about the Canadian Grand Prix, he said, “It was a difficult race. The start was particularly tough in the beginning with the prime tyres compared to the much softer compounds of everybody else.”

“Still, I was able to gain some positions at the start. However, with the Safety Car and an extremely poor warm up with the harder compound of tyre, it was impossible to keep up with the pace.”

Williams have failed to get past Q3 in a majority of the seven races so far this season. In fact, Sirotkin made it to Q2 on only one occasion in Azerbaijan whereas Stroll has not managed that in a single Grand Prix weekend.

The Russian had some strong words for his team regarding the statistic. “We were the slowest car of the day and we have done our best to finish the race despite the issues we’ve had. That’s where we are and we have to be honest with that”, said Sirotkin.

Williams are currently languishing at the bottom of the F1 Constructors’ Championships with just 4 points from seven races. Sirotkin has failed to score any points while his teammate managed an 8 place finish at Azerbaijan to earn them.

The Grove-based team have regressed spectacularly over the years. From being a title contender to struggling for points has been a massive jump. Claire Williams has tried her best to lift the team but it just does not seem to be working at the moment.
