The Italian Grand Prix’s safety car finish brought back memories of 2021 Abu Dhabi for many. Nostalgia is the theme of the week for Lewis Hamilton, as the recent retirement announcement of Roger Federer brings back another memory for the Mercedes driver.

It reminds us of the heartfelt moment when the Swiss tennis champion sent Hamilton a tennis racket in 2019.

Roger Federer gifts tennis racket to Lewis Hamilton

In a wholesome gesture, Roger Federer sent a signed tennis racket to Lewis Hamilton for a match with his father. The Mercedes driver’s tennis attempts are well-known over social media as he posts about the matches with his dad.

Hamilton received the gift when he was in England with his family, prior to the 2019 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Federer had sent the then six-time-world champion a signed Wilson pro staff racket. In a handwritten note, Federer said: “Dear Lewis, I hope you are well. Just wanted to make sure you were on of the first to receive my new racket. Best always, Roger.

Hamilton later posted a photo of the gift on Instagram, with the caption, “Thank you so much Roger Federer for this. Finally, have the tool to make sure my dad doesn’t beat me ever.

Lewis Hamilton has previously spoken about his admiration for the tennis star. To have received such a gift from your inspiration is truly a great moment.

That was not the only time the tennis and F1 stars collided, though. Roger Federer recently surprised everyone by visiting the 2022 Spanish Grand Prix qualifying races. The Swiss tennis star along with Hamilton and George Russell sent off a flurry of pictures across social media.

Hamilton wrote, “Honoured to see this legend” on his Instagram story. Federer also posted on Twitter, tagging both Hamilton and Russell, “I had a need for speed. Good luck tomorrow.”
