In 2023, F1 has seen it all – One driver won 19 out of 21 races, the longest race calendar ever, the biggest winning margin, and much more. While many drivers and team members fell ill because of the long and tiring schedule, others seemed unbothered. Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso, amongst others, were the flagbearers of criticism of such a long-drawn race calendar. And it might just be getting worse.

F1 has big plans for the future. With 24 races planned for 2024, fans will surely be in for an enthralling ride. But can the same be said for the drivers, mechanics, engineers, and team bosses? Not exactly. While teams are pushing for F1 to reduce the number of races on the calendar, F1 is rumored to be going the opposite way with 30 races in 1 year.

Liberty Media has reportedly proposed to hold 3 Grands Prix in 7 days, with the Canadian GP, US GP (Austin), and Mexican GP being in the same week.

On paper and off it, the idea of 3 races in 1 week seems rather impossible. How will teams manage logistics in such a short period of time? Maybe these are the same concerns that arose in Toto Wolff’s mind when opposing this proposal.

According to George Russell, the toll that the 21 races took on Mercedes personnel was immense. Many fell ill and found it tough to deal with the triple header at the end of the year and the season finale. However, Toto Wolff seems to be rather unbothered by the chatter.

As per Fermin, though the Mercedes Team Principal is strongly against the 30-race proposal, he is open to an increase in the number of races to 25. He has also argued for the Pinnacle of Motorsport to host as many races outside of Europe as many within it.
