Sergio Perez had a difficult time at the Imola Grand Prix, qualifying 11th and finishing P8. These results were unacceptable considering he’s driving the RB20. Checo is also yet to finalize his seat on the grid and who knows if he gets to keep his Red Bull seat. In the past, Helmut Marko announced that the reason there has not been a contract for Perez yet is because they want that to be a motivation to drive better. Unfortunately, that plan is not working so well.

The Mexican driver is yet to achieve two consecutive podiums while his partner is busy driving like a world champion. The RB20 is the quickest car on the grid and it is unlucky for Checo that he is not being able to produce results. Recently there has been a rumor that broke out saying Red Bull finally offered Perez a contract, but the 34-year-old driver declined the offer.

Rumor has it that Red Bull had offered a 1-year contract with the team. The Mexican was not happy with the offer and declined it, only to give the team a counteroffer of 2 years instead. This was reported by FOXSportsMX and these are all the details that are known so far.

Whether Red Bull had made an offer for a year or not is yet to be confirmed and so is the response for that. So far Checo is not doing that well as his result at the Imola race put him behind Charles Leclerc in the drivers’ championship. This is a huge hit to Red Bull, who have had an almost perfect track record of being the dominant team.

If this report is just a rumor, Perez has a lot to prove this season before he gets a real contract. What he wants is a 2-year contract and that should be fair. But for that, he will need to continue to prove to the team that he is worth the seat in the team.

As we head to Monaco, we look back at his performance the last two times F1 has raced on the track. In 2023, Perez had a bad race weekend, to say the least. He crashed his car during the qualifying and started at the end of the grid.

It was not easy for him to overtake much either, as he finished the race after being lapped twice by his teammate. The Track is extremely narrow, and it was difficult for the Mexican driver to gain many positions as he finished the race 16th.

But this track does not only come with bad memories for Checo. In 2022, secured his third-ever F1 win at Monaco beating Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen who took the podium with his teammate coming in P3.

Perez has had good races and bad races here and this year will decide if Monaco is a track that favors him or shows Red Bull that they might have to look for a new driver. With that said, do you think Sergio Perez will be able to achieve a podium finish this weekend?
