Back in 2007, McLaren was caught up in F1’s biggest cheating scandal. The team was banned from racing that year for participating in the Spygate scandal. In this, the team stole sensitive information from Ferrari but was caught and banned that year for cheating. The cars of both drivers were tweaked to make them less than optimal, and Fernando Alonso decided to share company secrets and expose the team.

And it looks like this time around, Ferrari has a driver leaving soon with a bitter taste in his mouth. As Carlos Sainz is set to be replaced by Lewis Hamilton, McLaren Boss, Zak Brown made an appearance on the Fast and the Curious podcast to talk about the Spaniard leaking information from Ferrari this time.

Zak Brown, on the Fast and Curious podcast, discussed McLaren’s strategy and teams that they are looking to beat this year. When the topic came to being about Carlos Sainz being replaced with Hamilton, Brown said, “Carlos needs to be finding out where he’s going to be racing in the future, (he’s a) great racing driver so no doubt that he will be on the grind in F1, the only question is with whom?”

He continued, “That will create an interesting environment in both those teams, they have drivers going out, so you gotta figure out when do you start managing what information they have, drivers will have something to prove so team order will be harder to implement.”

As Brown speaks about taking information from Ferrari, it’s hard to not remember how McLaren leveraged The Spygate scandal to try to win. While McLaren has both their drivers set with long-term contracts, fans are speculating about the team trying to get their hands on some Ferrari information. For this, Carlos Sainz will have to be signed with McLaren, and one of the two drivers at McLaren will have to be replaced.

Over the years, Sainz has been a loyal driver for Ferrari but was replaced by Hamilton. It is obvious that Sainz is not happy about the move and will be giving his new team some insights on beating Ferrari. So which team is Sainz likely to go to?

What’s next for Carlos Sainz?

While the 2024 season is not yet through, it’s hard to say which teams will approach Sainz to sign him. He is a remarkable driver and many believe that it’s only about time that a team approaches him. The end of 2024 will be a hectic time, with most of the drivers on the grid losing their seats if their contracts are not renewed.

Teams like Red Bull, Mercedes, Alpine, Williams, Visa Cash App RB, Sauber, and Haas will have an opening. Many of these teams will be looking for new drivers to see how it goes, and among all the drivers, Sainz has proved himself with 2 GP wins and 18 podiums over the years. Sainz has had a relationship with Visa Cash App RB 2024 when it was Toro Rosso, and among all the teams that will have a free seat, this is the only one has driven for in the past.

While he has experience with Visa Cash App RB, the other teams are quite strong prospects too. Red Bull and Mercedes will both have a seat open and by getting signed by either of the teams, Sainz can remain in the top 3 teams in the sport.
