As the car launches take place, Zak Brown comes forth to have a conversation with Speedcafe. The team has already displayed their car before the launch date and will be going through with the event on February 14. Preceding the car release, Brown decided to talk about the position McLaren is in and continued to talk about the prospects for World Champion this year. After stating, “We like what we’re seeing in the wind tunnel and CFD at the moment. So we feel like we’re going to take a step forward.”
While explaining the progress, Brown drew a comparison to Red Bull and said, “How much? The great mystery on Red Bull is when did they turn off the development of their [2023] car?” Focusing on Red Bull’s strength, he continued, “I think the answer is probably pretty early, so we’ll just have to wait and see how much Adrian Newey magic comes out of the oven, so to speak.” According to Brown, Adrian Newey’s engineering, paired with Max Verstappen’s driving skills, have been the reasons for their dominance.
But what really turned heads was when Brown shared, “I wouldn’t be surprised if we were sitting here and all of a sudden Mercedes was back to Lewis [Hamilton] winning a championship.” While explaining how tough and competitive things are in the top 3, Brown prepares to take on 2024 with a new approach.
