Formula 1 just had one of the most unexpected weekends of the season, with Lando Norris taking the victory for the first time. The British driver has finally broken his ‘podium without a win’ curse as he leads the Miami Grand Prix. While the race was amazing for Norris, his teammate Oscar Piastri can’t say the same.
Oscar Piastri was leading the race at one point and it looked like he had things under control. However, an incident with Carlos Sainz put him in the pit lane, leading to him finishing P13. This was unfortunate for Piastri and Lando Norris also addressed the Australian’s pace during the race. Zak Brown came forth to talk about the race, revealing his joy for the victory while speaking about how both his drivers raced in Miami.
Zak Brown’s verdict on the Miami Grand Prix
F1 Nation headed to the paddocks of McLaren where they interviewed members of the team. There was no way that they would leave without hearing what Zak Brown had to say about the win. When Brown spoke to Tom Clarkson, he was asked about how he felt after the race.
To this, Brown replied, “Pretty awesome! What a great race. I mean, Oscar drove brilliantly. Feel bad he didn’t get the result he deserves.” Oscar Piastri, despite his P13 finish, drove amazingly, and even after contact with Sainz, he managed to score the fastest lap in the race.
Brown spoke about the winning driver, saying, “Lando certainly got the result he deserves for the team. The upgrades clearly worked. It was just great to see Max pull away. I meant to say Lando pulled away from Max, but he did. And the strategy was perfect. Perfect execution, and we earned that one.”
Oscar Piastri managed to win the Qatar Sprint race while Lando was still sitting at 0 wins and considering how much McLaren backed up the Briton, it was about time that he won a race.
Zak Brown on Lando Norris’ maiden F1 win
“Let’s talk about Lando now. How much did he deserve this? “ asked Tom Clarkson. Zak Brown promptly replied, “I think it’s long overdue for him to win, but it’s been long overdue for kind of anybody to get a chance to win.”
He explained what this means to Norris, saying, “It’s great because I think once you get that first one off your back, then the second one doesn’t seem too far away.” While the recent race winner beat Max Verstappen at this track, there are plenty more races to go. While remembering to stay grounded, Brown concluded, “So, feet on the ground. It’s good that we have been quicker than Ferrari the last two races now because that’s who we’re trying to catch in the championship.”
McLaren is currently third in the constructor championship, and they still have Ferrari to overtake before being a threat to Red Bull. The scoreboard is currently 239 points for Red Bull, 187 for Ferrari, and 124 for the Papaya army. That being said, do you think McLaren has what it takes to beat Ferrari this year?
