Sergio Perez ended up with a DNF at the Monaco Grand Prix, and he has been struggling for the last few races. There hasn’t been a podium since China from his end and Red Bull might just discontinue with Checo. On the other hand, Yuki Tsunoda is doing a great job in a VCARB. Will this mean that Checo might get replaced by Tsunoda?

So far, Checo has been inconsistent with his driving, missing out on the podium at half the races this season. He is also yet to score a win and judging by the way he is driving, it looks difficult. Although the Monaco crash was not his fault, qualifying for P18 brings significant traffic, and Monaco is a difficult race to overtake in any way. That being said, Tsunoda is consistently showing what he can do in a VCARB and F1 Pundits are starting to believe that he might be a fit driver for the car.

In the latest episode of The Red Flag Podcast, Brian Muller and Matt Elisofon discuss the events of the Monaco Grand Prix while shedding light on the Checo situation. “Not to kick a man while he’s down, but Yuki should be in the fucking Red Bull seat. Yuki Tsunoda should be the second Red Bull driver,” one of the hosts noted, while discussing the possibilities of bringing Tsunoda to the grid: “Could Yuki do worse than Perez is doing right now? Oh, sure. I mean, got into Q3. Perez out in Q1. What are we talking about? Perez? P18 Yuki P8, what are we talking about here?”

Things got unhinged when they explained the leeway the Mexican gets saying, “Perez keeps showing like plumber’s crack once every other race. And they never seem to keep. He rips. Yeah, he doesn’t flush the toilet. You know, and Christian’s just like, ‘I’ll just flush it for him’.” Although Sergio Perez is not performing well this season, Red Bull has kept him around for so long considering the sponsor money he brings in with him. But on the other hand, so can Tsunoda and that’s what the Red Flag Pundits conclude on. So this brings up the question, why is Red Bull not performing as expected this season?

Red Bull’s biggest issue in 2024

Sergio Perez is underperforming this season and Max Verstappen has also fallen from grace. As undefeatable Red Bull looked at the start of the season, right now it looks like Ferrari might just overtake them in the constructors championship. However, the main problem preventing them from winning races has come to light. One of the main issues that Max Verstappen reported during the Imola and Monaco GP was the fact that the car was bouncing quite a bit.

The team is yet to figure out the sweet spot for the suspensions as Verstappen has reported the car “bouncing like a kangaroo.” The car is still quite fast at high-speed circuits, it’s only the slow turns that they struggle with the most. On the other hand, the other teams are catching up quickly with even a Mercedes finishing higher than the dominant Red Bull driver.
