The 2021 season was somewhat content for Yuki Tsunoda at AlphaTauri. However, as Yuki moves into his second year in the sport, the pressure mounts on him to deliver more. But the AlphaTauri driver is confident in his approach. The Japanese made his debut with the Italian team last year. Yuki replaced Daniil Kvyat at the end of 2020 to start a new journey with the Red Bull sister team. Yuki is hopeful for a better 2022 season this time around, as he’ll go on to have his first race at Bahrain in a few days’ time.

Talking about this, the 21-year-old has conveyed, “It’s true that I have to deliver more and reduce the number of mistakes I make compared to last year, but I don’t feel any pressure. I am convinced I can achieve that and I’m not worried about making mistakes.” Yuki partners Frenchman Pierre Gasly at the Faenza-based team for 2022.

Team boss Franz Tost revealed on Yuki’s first season performance, “I haven’t seen him out of control. What happened with Yuki is normal in the first year with a rookie. He had some fantastic results. I remember here in Bahrain he was in ninth position, at Imola he crashed in qualifying, but later he had some very good results.”

Interestingly, Yuki was hailed as “F1’s best rookie for years” by F1 technical director Ross Brawn. As of 2021, Tsunoda had a brilliant end to the season as he finished in P4 in Abu Dhabi Grand Prix behind Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, and Carlos Sainz.
Yuki will look to have a much better season in 2022. Since last year was his debut season, he managed to collect 32 points. The Japanese were massively outplayed by his teammate Pierre, who picked up 110 points. Yuki finished in P14 in the driver’s championship whereas Pierre had much improved P9.

As for AlphaTauri, they will look to improve on their Constructor’s Championship. The team lost the battle for P5 to Alpine last season. The Italian team picked up 142 points in 22 races as compared to Alpine’s 155.
