Nikita Mazepin again came under the fire for his driving at the Dutch Grand Prix weekend. He first had an incident with his teammate Mick Schumacher in qualifying and then made questionable moves on his and Sergio Perez in the race. Former F1 world champion Jenson Button called the Russian driver for his antics on the weekend.

Button mentioned that the way Mazepin drives is not suitable and safe for F1 right now. The former McLaren recommended the Haas driver to change his driving style if he wants a long career in the sport.

Former F1 champion criticizes Nikita Mazepin for his attitude on track

As reported by Motorsport-total, Button stated what happened on Saturday with his teammate Schumacher should not affect Mazepin on a Sunday. He continued by mentioning he should accept his mistakes and learn from them.

“You can no longer react to something like that, that’s the problem. He changed lanes extremely quickly,” said Button on Mazepin’s moves in the race.

Button gave his take on the inter-team rivalry between Schumacher and Mazepin. “What happened on Saturday plays a role. It mustn’t affect how you drive on Sunday.

And if it does, then you’re in the wrong sport. Formula 1 is a dangerous sport. If he wants to have a long career in Formula 1, then he has to change his mind. He’s way too aggressive. You can do it. Do not react to such a situation.” said Jenson.

But it’s about how you react to these mistakes: Jenson Button

The 2009 world champion mentioned that the Russian driver needs to learn from his mistakes. He also stated that he needs to accept the fact everybody makes mistakes, including his team and teammate.

“A team makes mistakes. We all make mistakes. Even our teammate. But it’s about how you react to these mistakes. That makes you the person and the racing driver that you are.” said the former Williams driver.

Button concluded by saying, “You just have to talk something out. Discuss the problems, and then you come to the track the next day, and it should be a new day, looking ahead. So that you can get the best out of yourself and your team.

And I don’t think he thought that way. He just did everything to keep his teammate behind him,”
