Ferrari and its drama just go on and on. After a dramatic season full of highs and lows, the Scuderia has lost its top guy too in 2022. Though, the decision has been seen with a mixed perspective, as Binotto was a key figure on the technical side.

Ferrari finished 2nd in both championships with just 4 race wins. Mattia Binotto who assumed two roles as the Team Principal and the Chief Technical Officer decided to resign from his post after spending more than 2 decades at Ferrari.
On this decision, many experts have commented as Ferrari probably lost a key figure in its management. Sky F1 pundit Martin Brundle also put forth his thoughts at the Guild of Motoring Writers’ Annual Awards dinner.
Brundle said, “You’re working for a country there at Ferrari, not just a team, of course.” Brundle mentioned that losing their team principal as well as their chief technical officer at the same time is quite concerning.
He added, “Unless they have got somebody very, very good to replace him straightaway, it all looks a little bit strange. But that’s the nature of it.”
Brundle opined that Ferrari needs someone who would not be as heavily under the spotlight of the Italian media. He stated, “You’ve got to speak Italian. And I think the problem is, if you look back at when they were last successful, they had a Frenchman in Jean Todt, a Brit in Ross Brawn, a South African with Rory Byrne, and so on.”
The last few team principals of Ferrari have been of Italian origin. So if Ferrari is not benefitting from this trending tradition, they might want to break this mold.
Can Ferrari find a replacement for Mattia Binotto?
With Binotto set to leave after December 2022, Ferrari has announced they will find a new team boss for the new year. Though so far they are not finding anyone to take up the role at Scuderia.
Alfa Romeo’s Frederic Vasseur is the prime candidate speculated to replace Binotto. Vasseur has had a previous connection with Charles Leclerc and knows him well. The Frenchman might be a strong voice of authority at Maranello.
Besides him, as per F1 Insider, Ferrari has approached Andreas Seidl of McLaren, Franz Tost of AlphaTauri, Christian Horner of Red Bull, and Monisha Kaltenborn, the ex-Sauber boss. Kaltenborn was the Sauber’s CEO until she left in 2017.

Words from Frédéric Vasseur: "We leave Barcelona feeling positive. We had a very strong rhythm at a certain stage of the race and scored one point, which we did not anticipate before arriving here." 👍

Although, it may not be an external individual totally. The Scuderia might consider internal candidates like Laurent Mekies too. So the current assistant team principal could take a promotion at Maranello for 2023.
