Who doesn’t love the 90s? Christian Horner’s Wife and our forever Spice Girl, Geri Halliwell, took fans back in time to talk about the iconic Union Jack dress that made a statement so bold, that it resonated with countless women around the globe.
Post the release of the first Spice Girls album in 1996, their fame spread like wildfire around the world. The band was soon up for their first Brit Awards, which was surely a big deal.

Given how prestigious the event was, Halliwell was puzzled about what she would want to wear. This is where Tom Ford stepped in, who was working for Gucci at the time. He presented her with the classic little black dress inspired by the 1950s Marilyn Monroe look. However, Geri was not convinced. She felt it lacked personality.
And so, since it’s the ‘Brit’ Awards she believed the British flag would be rather apt. She happen to find a Tea Towel, and the rest became history going forward from here.
She said, “My sister did it, cause she was better at sewing than I am, But I remember showing it to a stylist. And she said to me, you can’t wear that. She actually said, You cannot wear that, it’s racist. It’s national front.”
National Front was an extreme party that existed in Britain at the time and were said to be racist. She wanted to establish that it wasn’t a political stand, but more about bringing everyone together, and celebrating all cultures. And so, she put a peace sign on the back of the dress and just went for it.
As we all know, the dress went on to become what ‘girl power’ stood for. As Geri described it, it was sassy, it was bold, and it had an attitude. People wore their own versions of it and that in itself spoke volumes!
Christian Horner and Geri Halliwell’s Sweet Nothings
The former racing driver racer and presently the Team Principal of the Red Bull F1 team, Christian Horner first met the spice girl in 2009, apparently courtesy of former chief executive of Formula 1, Bernie Ecclestone.
The two were pictured at various F1 events before their marriage.

In 2011, they were pictured at the Monaco Grand Prix, and soon after, in 2013, the two were captured smiling gleefully at The British Formula 1 Grand Prix. Even though they hadn’t officially coupled up by then, there sure seemed to be some signs of sparks.
