Michael Schumacher and his Boss at the Scuderia Ferrari can very well be termed as the last successful TP-Driver pairing at Ferrari, winning multiple titles in the constructors and drivers championships. Regardless, As Frederic Vasseur attempts to divert attention from the gloomy reality of Ferrari’s 2023 campaign, he targets Michael Schumacher’s Boss while doing so. What did Vasseur say?

Ferrari’s 2023 campaign’s first half hasn’t been what the Scuderia was looking for. Mattia Binotto retired from the TP role after last year and Frederic Vasseur was appointed with the hopes of turning things around. Let’s just say things haven’t really turned around with Ferrari making the same strategic blunders and the SF-23 is nowhere near the pace of Red Bull. Disappointment can be heard in both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz’s words.

Amid all this, Frederic Vasseur has decided to target Jean Todt, the man who, along with Michael Schumacher, brought unparalleled success to Ferrari in the early 2000s. Taking attention away from Ferrari’s disappointing season, Vasseur explained how Todt had to survive 7 non-winning years at Ferrari before he actually started winning with Michael Schumacher on the team.

According to Formulapassion.it, Frederic Vasseur told Corriere Dello Sport, “What are we missing? What Todt lacked between 1993 and 2000, yet the ingredients were complete: there was Jean, there was Schumacher, there were the right engineers, there was Bridgestone, there was Marlboro. There was Ferrari! But not everything was working and they had to sync to make it happen. Todt’s real feat was surviving the first 7 years of defeats, rather than winning for the next 7.” [Translated via Google]

Teams like Aston Martin have had a major revamp this year to turn things around. This included signing new engineers from the other top teams. For a team like Aston Martin or Mercedes, it’s easy as they’re based in the UK and the personnel don’t have to move countries or have a change of culture. The same couldn’t be said about Ferrari, as explained by Vasseur.

According to Skysports.com, Frederic Vasseur said, “It’s not the same situation – you can move from Red Bull to Mercedes, keep the same hours, keep children in the same school, and from the Friday to the Monday you can change and everything is perfect. If you want to come to Italy, it’s a different approach. You have to change the family environment and so on.”
