Emilia Clarke at the British GP—Is she the new lucky charm for Lewis Hamilton?

“I’m in love. She’s the baddest, a bad ting ya kno,” Lewis Hamilton said in 2019. About whom, you ask? The Mercedes driver’s Game of Thrones addiction had taken over his life and he was smitten with Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke. But this wasn’t all he said. 5 years later today, the tables have turned as his TV crush has arrived at the British GP to witness him in the fight for his 9th home victory.

Game of Thrones is unanimously considered one of the best TV shows of all time. Though the show began in 2011, Lewis Hamilton never began watching it till 2019, when the final season was released. But once he started, he couldn’t stop. “Guys, I think I’m ill,” he dramatically said on his Instagram story. “I’m so addicted to Game of Thrones. It’s now like I can’t wait for my day to finish so I can go home and watch it before I go to bed, It’s changed my life. It’s the greatest thing ever. To all the cast and all crew that made Game of Thrones…. I just want to say a big thank you. Appreciate you guys.”

Swooning over compatriot Emilia Clarke’s performance, the 7-time champion wrote how every man needs a strong independent woman with dragons.” Though the mother of dragons never got back to Hamilton’s unfiltered message, today might be the day. Ahead of the British GP, F1’s Instagram account shared a story of the 3-time Emmy award winner walking into the F1 paddock, scurrying to get under an umbrella and clutching to her jacket for warmth. Interestingly, she is Ferrari‘s guest for the evening, the team that Hamilton will drive for in 2025.

Aiming to be very realistic, the makers have shot scenes during actual F1 race weekends in 2023 and 2024. F1 has also been kind enough to let them have an 11th garage in the paddock for the fictional ‘APXGP’ team.

The movie’s simplistic title has received backlash from fans. But being co-producer, Hamilton has shared how it was a deliberate move to not divert focus from the series. If this turns out to be a blockbuster, Hamilton might further dive into Hollywood post-F1 retirement. Who knows, maybe a collaboration with Emilia Clarke might even be on his wishlist.
