Australian sportspersons drinking from their shoe after a win is almost a tradition now. Daniel Ricciardo popularized this Aussie tradition in the world of Formula 1 after his wins with Red Bull and McLaren. The latest to join is WWE NXT star Grayson Waller, who did the ‘Shoey’ after his win in the inaugural Iron Survivor NXT match.

Daniel Ricciardo did a shoey for the first time in F1 after he secured a P2 position in the 2016 German GP. He even got fellow Aussie and former F1 driver Mark Webber to drink from his boot on the podium. The then Red Bull driver kept the tradition going after winning the Malaysian GP in the same year. He got Nico Rosberg, Christian Horner, and Hollywood star Gerard Butler to do it as well on the podium. The Honey Badger has got the tradition going as he even had Lewis Hamilton join him in the celebration once.

WWE star Grayson Waller follows in Daniel Ricciardo’s footsteps to celebrate iconic win

NXT’s Inaugural Men’s Iron Survivor Match saw Grayson Waller, JD McDonagh, Carmelo Hayes, and Axiom compete for the title. The rules of the match were simple- get as many pinfalls as you can before the time-bound buzzer rings. Waller entered at number 4 and won the match with 3 pins added to his name.

As the other contenders lay into the ring, trying to catch their breath, Grayson surprised the audience. He took his shoe off and drank beer from it. While some fans on Twitter were left shocked, many pointed out the tradition Daniel Ricciardo has followed in F1 over the years.

Have a look at some reactions from Danny Ric fans.

One fan believed Ricciardo would be proud of his fellow Australian for the win and the celebration.

Another Ricciardo fan posted a video GIF of the F1 star drinking the winning champagne from his show alongside Grayson’s video.

Some were surprised to see Waller follow the tradition they thought was started by Daniel. While we do agree that the Honey Badger has brought the tradition to the mainstream, its origins, according to Car Throttle, trace back to the 1800s in Germany.
