“An RKO outta nowhere!” – A line reproduced by multiple WWE commentators over the years, encapsulating the very core of Randy Orton‘s wrestling career. His aesthetic finisher executed at the most unpredictable of times makes it, and him, a deadly combo to be at the receiving end of. Moreover, such is his personal brand that his fame has crossed the boundaries of sport to land in Formula 1. That too, in a way in which a Mercedes driver has contradicted his boss, Toto Wolff‘s disassociation with the WWE to put ‘The Viper’ on a pedestal.
F1 is currently being utterly dominated by Red Bull and Max Verstappen. At such a junction when no other team is able to match them, there had been chatter about F1 introducing regulations that would slow them down. Reacting to this, despite being their arch-rivals, Mercedes Team Principal, Wolff expressed his displeasure on how that would destroy the sport. He even stated how doing so would make the sport “scripted content” like the WWE. Surprisingly, George Russell, who drives for Wolff’s team has referenced Orton in a complimentary way for another rival of Mercedes’.
George Russell on Alex Albon's promotion to Red Bull in 2019:
"Alex just came through like full Randy Orton out of nowhere, straight into Red Bull, and I’m thinking 'Whoa, what is going on here?'."

Alex Albon, currently driving for Williams, created ripples in 2019, when he was promoted to Red Bull. His name was everywhere and deservedly so. Albon’s talent and race-craft was one to be admired. This sudden promotion turned a lot of heads and Russell, was one of them. The Briton told Motorsport Magazine, “Alex just came through like full Randy Orton out of nowhere, straight into Red Bull, and I’m thinking ‘Whoa, what is going on here?’.”
This comparison is a very flattering one for Albon. He has been bracketed with a WWE Legend and that too by a driver whose boss wants nothing to do with the WWE. If Orton reads this, it should prove as a bit of relief from the mental preoccupation about his back injury. However, there is some good news for his fans in that domain.

Randy Orton last appeared on WWE in May 2022. His tag team fight with RK-bro Matt Riddle against the Usos on Smackdown was his last showing for WWE fans. Ever since then, he has been nursing a back injury and has been sidelined from the sport.
According to Xero news, however, the time for his injury troubling him might be coming to an end. Though the WWE hasn’t made any arrangements for the return of ‘the Viper’, they are optimistic about his comeback sometime before the end of this year.
