After a very long time, Fernando Alonso finally has a car that can challenge for podium finishes if not for the top spot straightaway. After the drubbing in 2022, Mercedes isn’t going any better and Lewis Hamilton is far from amused. Alonso did not have the best of starts as his own teammate, Lance Stroll hit him from behind in Lap 1. The incident caused both Aston Martin drivers a couple of places.

Alonso kept catching Hamilton up until Mercedes called him in for a tire change to avoid an undercut in Lap 31. Later, Fernando went into the pitlane as well for hard tires, coming out behind his former McLaren teammate.

However, it was Lap 37 when Alonso set the fastest lap and made significant ground behind Lewis. At one point he even managed to get ahead of Lewis, but the Briton immediately retook the position in Turn 4.
