The fact a 41-year-old Fernando Alonso is still one of the top performers on the grid is not a coincidence. The Spaniard is one of the most talented drivers and his longevity attests to that fact. However, even the best carry around some criticism with them. Many consider Alonso difficult to work with and he seldom makes statements that raise eyebrows. This is exactly what happened back in 2018 when he made a revelation about Red Bull.
When asked if he had offers from Red Bull, Alonso made an interesting revelation, as heard in the video from 2018 posted on Twitter. He said, “Yes, I had a couple of offers from Red Bull. In fact, l had in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, and two this year – one in Monaco and one in August.”

This statement makes Alonso the most sought-after driver for Red Bull. However, the team had the likes of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, in 2009 and 2011. In 2013, the team was looking for a driver, but Alonso was committed to Ferrari. In 2018, Alonso was already set on taking on a new adventure. According to fans, only 2007 seems like the only possible year Alonso could’ve been offered the Red Bull seat.
This theory was confirmed by Christian Horner during an interview back in 2018. The statement from Horner rebuked Alonso’s claim and put his comments to shame.
