Following the culmination of a seventh consecutive title winning campaign, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff announced that he had renewed his contract in the role of team boss for a further three years.

Despite presiding over the team and gaining incredible success, Wolff himself had revealed that the job asked a lot from him. The Austrian had hinted that he may move on from his role as team principal and focus on a bigger role that limits his trackside involvement.

So, his decision to continue as the team boss came as a surprise to everyone.

But now, having made that decision, Wolff is firmly committed to working towards achieving success. Despite having a young family back home, Wolff doesn’t see his job as a task, instead sees it a part of his life. His passion for racing drives him despite it meaning he gets to spend lesser time with his family.

He said (translated via Google), “We live and breathe motorsport every day. For us, this topic of work-life balance doesn’t even exist, because that’s all life. We do it with passion.

“I found [2020] that I really enjoy the competition. The stopwatch is always honest, and I want to don’t miss out on being at the races.”

Wolff certainly has his plate full with him managing two roles at a time. But considering the fact that there will be even more races in the upcoming season, things could get hectic for the Austrian. However, Wolff doesn’t seem overly concerned.

He said, “Of course that will be a job that will not only be 23 races on the road next year, but will also be with the company Monday to Friday.”

He added that thanks to the backing of Mercedes and higher ups at Daimler, he is “really enjoying” this challenge.

Wolff’s next challenge would be to get Lewis Hamilton to sign on the dotted line. With less than two months to go for the start of the season, he would want to have all the ‘curveballs’ in contract negotiations resolved. He’d want his ace driver back in the seat as soon as possible so that he can get back to masterminding the Silver Arrows to their eighth consecutive Constructors’ title.
