It was indeed a rollercoaster weekend for Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton constantly obtaining the top spot only to drop back into the midfield. First, it was the qualifying disqualification, and then followed the engine penalty.

But, in the end, the Briton reaped rewards for his entire team’s suffering through the past 3 days; Hamilton went on to claim a shocking race victory at Interlagos. Contrastingly, it has been a weekend of false hopes for Red Bull.

Max Verstappen, despite showing promising signs, just couldn’t make it count when it mattered the most, constantly ending second or even third fastest in qualifying, sprint, and the main race.

Hence, one can confidently say that it was a complete Mercedes-dominant Sao Paulo Grand Prix despite the team enduring a few untimely obstructions. But, are Red Bull ready to accept their defeat? Well, no, according to Mercedes’ Toto Wolff.

What did Toto Wolff say?

Following the ecstatic race in Brazil, Wolff reckoned that Red Bull are pushing much harder than ever to prove the illegality of Mercedes’ rear wing. This debacle has been going on since Turkey, where Christian Horner had clarified that the Milton Keynes outfit would not be protesting it.

However, Wolff claimed that Mercedes’ weekend of penalties might not be over just yet, with Red Bull aching to take their rear wing query to the FIA.

Let’s see if some more funny things happen. A protest,” he reportedly told Sky Germany.

When asked whether a Red Bull protest is in the offing, Wolff acknowledged that Red Bull have been ‘walking in and out of the FIA office.

They are going in and out of the FIA offices. It‘s okay. They can take it [rear wing] and cut it at home,” Wolff concluded. Both Verstappen and Horner recently affirmed their suspicions over Mercedes’ rear wing, especially the one that is fitted on Hamilton’s car.

Hamilton has been quite unusually faster than even his teammate on the straights, which may have triggered a load of doubts in the Red Bull crew’s head. So, will this off-track battle escalate further?
