George Russell and his probable move to Silver Arrows next season have been a matter of speculation for months now. The 23-year-old is heavily rumoured to replace Valtteri Bottas at Mercedes to teaming up with the seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton.

Meanwhile, Mercedes team principal, Toto Wolff, believes that regardless of their decision for the second seat at Silver Arrows, Valtteri Bottas and George Russell will have great options in Formula 1  next season.

What did Toto Wolff say?

As quoted by GPFans, when asked about George Russell and Valtteri Bottas’ future in Formula 1, Toto Wolff said, “George and Valtteri would have probably more than one option to stay in Formula 1 and race in Formula 1 with an attractive outlook.

“Most teams see themselves as challenger teams, that they expect a big step to be done next year because of the cost cap that is now valid for everybody.

“They’ve concentrated on next year’s development very early, you can see that Alfa, Williams haven’t brought in an enormous amount of pieces anymore for a while. I think George and Valtteri would have, whatever we decide, great options,” added Wolff.

What’s going on in the drivers’ market regarding Mercedes’ Bottas and Russell

As Formula 1 reached the midway point, drivers’ future in the pinnacle of motorsport is up in the air. And so does the future of Bottas, who is rumoured with a move away from Mercedes next season.

Valtteri Bottas has been under fire at Mercedes because of his unconvincing performances this season. And according to the rumor mill, the Finnish driver has been tipped to join either his former team, Williams, or Alfa Romeo.

Whereas, George Russell, who is in the last year of his contract, is rumoured to join Silver Arrows next season. The Mercedes junior academy product has been impressive in his 2021 campaign, and he even scored his first points with Williams at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The young Briton drew everyone’s attention when he replaced Lewis Hamilton during the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix when the latter tested positive for COVID-19. In addition, Russell is considered as the frontrunner to teaming up with Lewis Hamilton next season. Furthermore, Williams’ team principal, Jost Capito, has already confirmed earlier this year George Russell will stay at the Wantage-based team if Mercedes renews Bottas’s contract.
