Fernando Alonso left Ferrari to join McLaren in 2015. But that decision to move to Woking perhaps may be written in black letters in his career history. Not happy with the situation panning out in F1, the frustrated man hung his boots, though only for a couple of years. While many when they leave the sport just sit back and relax, Nando’s absolute love for racing saw him get involved in other disciplines like WEC. But now that he is back and how does he want to go back and conquer the rest?

Triple Crown is the biggest feat a racing driver can achieve, if he moves beyond Formula 1 to conquer other avenues. It consists of the Monaco Grand Prix in F1 or being an F1 champ, the Indy 500, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the WEC. While Graham Hill is the only driver to achieve it, Alonso only has the IndyCar category deficit. As quoted by Formula Passion, he ponders upon the dream while he is now close to his latent one of Formula 1 with Aston Martin.

He said, “The desire is there , but I think the commitment must be really high and 100%, because there is also a danger factor – he admitted – when I stopped with Formula 1 to dedicate myself to the 500 Miglia, I realized that small details can make a big difference, and maybe I’m not in step with the times or I’m not prepared like them, and I have to admit it. So, if I want to win the Indy 500, I need to make some attempts, put my all into it and run some ovals before this race. Consequently, I think that when I stop with Formula 1 this time, maybe I don’t want this commitment.”

While we are on the subject of dreams, Alonso has another and probably the biggest one.

Fernando Alonso let the world know his ultimate dream

Before temporarily hanging his boots, Nando had told the F1 world that negative aspects of Formula 1 keep you from having a life and family outside it. This was also echoed by Sebastian Vettel last year, that he wants to spend time with his family, but the extreme schedule hampers that. And now Fernando has come out to declare his wish.

The New York Times quoted him as saying, “The legacy I will leave will be the love for this sport, so great that I continue to practice it for many years, remaining at a very high level. It was one of the goals I set for myself when I returned.” [Translated using Google]

“I want to have a family. This is the biggest dream of my life. I haven’t gotten there yet due to my lifestyle. It’s something that, when I stop running, I’ll find happiness.”
