It’s the last race of the 2022 F1 season and what a stage it will be for the final showdown. After last year’s immensely contested and controversial race, Abu Dhabi will yet again host the ultimate race of the season and there will be quite a lot at stake for all the teams, except for Williams.

As the battle for supremacy inches closer, teams are gearing up to give their best at the Abu Dhabi GP.

The battle of supremacy begins with Red Bull. The 2022 F1 Constructors’ Champions have already clinched the title with three races to spare. Even though their championship is not at stake, they’ll be pushing to the maximum to see their driver Sergio Perez finish behind Max Verstappen for the 1-2 finish at the WDC.

Perez needs a good result to stay ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. However, they’re untouchable when it comes to the championship as they have amassed a massive 719 points. The Austrian team has picked up their first Constructors’ Championship since 2013 and has been absolutely dominant throughout the season.

Ferrari vs Mercedes

The next major team battle is between Ferrari and Mercedes for P2 in the constructors’ standings. Ferrari, who at some point looked to be the strongest contender for the championship, has fallen short of their expectations by a mile, and now, they battle Mercedes.

Mercedes, on the other hand, started their year off in an uncharacteristic way. Falling short of their title rivals Red Bull and then Ferrari, the Silver Arrows were quiet for most of the season. However, the team from Germany made a brilliant comeback at the United States and is on its way to challenge the Italian team for P2.

Their progress in performance was thoroughly visible when they picked up 1-2 in Brazil. Currently, Ferrari has 524 points as compared to Mercedes’ 505. A better performance from Lewis Hamilton and George Russell might see Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz’s team fall back to P3.

Alpine vs McLaren

The battle then shifts towards McLaren and Alpine. McLaren and Alpine have been largely mid-table teams in the last couple of years. Occasionally threatening the dominance of table toppers, these two teams have the capabilities to pick up a win when the day is theirs.

Once a top team in the sport, the Woking-based outfit has been facing some tough times in F1. As Daniel Ricciardo underperformed for straight two seasons, they are visibly struggling to score points. On the other hand, Alpine is currently ahead of McLaren, despite having numerous Fernando Alonso DNFs and crashes.

As Abu Dhabi GP is set to host the final race, McLaren will look to close in on Alpine and overtake them if they can deliver. Right now, the French team has 167 points in their tally, while the British team picked up 148 points so far.

Alfa Romeo vs Aston Martin

Both Alfa Romeo and Aston Martin have two-star drivers on their teams. Bottas, who joined the team earlier this year has led the charge from the front against everyone else and especially against their main rival this year, Aston Martin. While Aston Martin has Sebastian Vettel in their ranks and they will be trying the very best to take the P6 position.

As of now, Alfa Romeo are ahead of Aston Martin as they have just five points cushion. They have 55 points in their tally against the British team’s 50. It’ll be interesting to see how things turn out as the last race weekend for the year commences.

Haas vs AlphaTauri

The only American team on the grid, Haas, has delivered some fine performances this year. Kevin Magnussen surprised everyone with his stellar performance at the first race of the season when he finished in P5 in Bahrain. Compared to them, AlphaTauri has had quieter outings this year. Surprisingly, the team that finished in P6 last season, finds themselves in P9 this time around.

AlphaTauri trails Haas by two points as they have 35 points in the championship. The P8 position in the table will be at stake when the race goes underway in the UAE.

Lastly, it is Williams who have nothing to lose. Sitting at the end of the table, they don’t see any team threatening their position as they look for a better outcome next season. Once the top team in the sport, now hardly finds traction amid nine other teams.
