It’s been 14 years since Ferrari won an F1 World championship. Be it 2010, 2012, 2017 to 2019, or now 2022, the title challenges just haven’t come together for Ferrari. After another hope-crashing season this year, there are reports that current team boss Mattia Binotto is on his way out.

It’s been an opinion by several fans that Mattia Binotto isn’t the right man to lead Ferrari. Though, to be fair, the Italian has delivered on almost every Ferrari goal this season. Yet, a faltered championship challenge that may not even be expected by anyone in Maranello at the start of 2022 might cause Binotto’s exit.
Of course, there is no smoke without a fire, and if Binotto is leaving, the Maranello outfit has to find someone to replace him. And there are further rumors that Alfa Romeo team principal Frederic Vasseur might be a front-runner.
Although as per RacingNews365, Ferrari has asked every eligible team principal in the paddock. Yet, there are no takers for the top job at Maranello. This list of team bosses includes Red Bull’s Christian Horner
While Horner may be a strong figure and can make an impact, he doesn’t have any reason to leave their current team. He has been in his team for a long time now and with great success. So it will be strange to think that he will jump ship to take a rather nerve-wracking job at the Scuderia.

As things stand, Binotto has resigned from his duties and Ferrari has also put out a statement confirming the same.
Has Mattia Binotto not done enough for Ferrari?
Mattia Binotto has been part of Ferrari since the late 90s and early 2000s. Binotto was part of the engine team when he joined in 1995. He was part of the race team as an engineer during the Schumacher era. Later transitioned into technical roles on the engine and power unit side.
The technical expertise Binotto brought was immense and his hard work earned him the top spot as Team Principal. When Maurizio Arrivabene exited at the end of 2018, Ferrari chose Binotto to succeed him.
Since then, Mattia has tried his best to hold the Scuderia together despite adversities with the fuel-flow meter allegations in 2019. He led the team in one of its worst F1 seasons in 2020, performance-wise.

To everyone’s surprise, Binotto brought Ferrari back into the fight as they won 4 races in 2022 with multiple podium finishes. While there have been tire strategy failures and several lost wins for Charles Leclerc, was Binotto the sole individual to take these questionable calls should be the question.
A season that started like a dream this year, went down the drain with the title challenge. Meanwhile, the amount of slack thrown at Ferrari’s team management might be the reason Binotto has resigned from the Reds.
