Optimism can make one’s reality match with their ambition. Toto Wolff has been left in the middle of a hot pot as the Team Principal doesn’t want to change the team’s ambition. However, the reality is far away from what ambition is. Lewis Hamilton is optimistic and isn’t ready to accept anything below his ambition. Will the new updates and concept help match the reality to the ambition? Will Mercedes be able to keep Hamilton satisfied, giving him assurance for his future?
Lewis Hamilton already made it clear that the only reason for him to still be in F1 is that he wants to win championships. The Briton is in the last year of his contract and hasn’t signed a new one with Mercedes yet. Rumors of the seven-time world champion moving to another team are already floating in the paddock. Hamilton has already mentioned how the team did not listen to him when he told them about a flaw with the concept.
However, Mercedes has listened to their star driver and will be bringing updates to the Emilia Romagna GP. The updates are crucial as Mercedes wants to get closer to Red Bull and fight for the championship as Hamilton expects. Toto Wolff was recently asked if Mercedes has changed their goals with respect to the start of the season. Wolff explained how they don’t want to change the goals quite yet as they still need to see what the updates do to the car.

According to motorsport.com, Toto Wolff said “I don’t want to change the goals yet, I always want to think that we are here to fight for a world championship, even if it doesn’t seem realistic. There are many innovations in the pipeline, the layout of the car will change at Imola and we will see what this step entails.”
Further adding, “To be able to play for a world championship again, we know that we have to beat two drivers who at the moment they are far away, but we also have another confrontation for the role of second force, let’s say that they are two objectives “
Mercedes is ambitious but understands the task at hand with realistic targets set for the near future. Finishing second will not be enough to keep Hamilton happy. But it really is up to Briton if he wants to stay with the team or leave. However, the 38-year-old dismissed any rumors of a move to any other team.
