Probably the most intimidating aspect for a driver in Formula 1 is being paired against a world champion. This situation can get worse if you pair a rookie with a back-to-back world champion. Lewis Hamilton faced such a challenge, but the Brit navigated the harsh waters and stayed afloat. However, with a twist of fate, Hamilton is back fighting with his teammate. He is fighting with his teammate George Russell, who got the better of him in his first season with the Brackley outfit. This gave birth to another power struggle in the Mercedes garage, and Russell recently made his stance clear.
As far as Formula 1 teammate relationships go, the two Brits are cordial. However, it only takes a second for things to go south in the world of F1 and Russell’s statement of intent to Square Mile as quoted by Express might push the relationship over the edge.

He said, “In those three years at Williams, I might have been able to compete a little further in front, but if I hadn’t driven a Mercedes, I wouldn’t have fought for the world title anyway. So what’s the difference?”
“Ultimately I want to win titles and whether I’m fighting at the back of the field or for position seven, there’s no difference for me. All in all, I’m happy with how I stand now,” concluded Russell.

With Hamilton complaining about the state of the W14, Russell is keeping his head down and in the game. The young Brit has out-qualified his teammate in all the opening three races of the season. However, that hasn’t translated to positive race results and experts believe that will remain the case.

Hamilton openly spoke about his level of comfort in the W13. The Brit still doesn’t feel comfortable in his car and has various complaints about the 2023 challenger. However, former McLaren ace, Juan Pablo Montoya, believes once Hamilton gets comfortable, no one will be able to catch the seven-time world champion.

As quoted by Motorsport, the Colombian said, “Lewis offers an opportunity to shine. He’s a pilot who will catch it when it happens. But if Mercedes has a winning car again, I believe we will see a different Lewis.”
