Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg fell out when fighting for the championship. The 7X world champion might not be fighting for the title now, but the scenario is very much the same. As George Russell contests Lewis Hamilton giving him a scare, a Former F1 team has praised Toto Wolff’s masterstroke to secure Mercedes’ future. However, this masterstroke is indeed the reason for Hamilton’s worries. Let’s dive deeper to know more about this masterstroke.

George Russell outscored his seven-time world champion in 2022 by 35 points. The story continued into 2023 when the 25-year-old out-qualified Lewis Hamilton in every single race so far and would’ve been ahead in the championship had it not been for the retirement in Australia. Hamilton’s No.1 position has been put in danger by George Russell as he has found his feet at the team. Despite Lewis Hamilton’s request to keep Valtteri Bottas at Mercedes, Toto Wolff signed George Russell for 2022 and the 38-year-old is at his mercy now.

According to F1Maximaal.com, Eddie Jordan said, “Normally I would say Lando Norris is the most promising young driver, but George Russell pleasantly surprised me. I never thought he could do what he’s doing now, I didn’t think there was enough in him. When he was with Williams, I saw he was good but cunning, old Toto (Wolff, ed.) took him straight to Mercedes and chose him over other drivers. He brought in the right person because George is a genius.”

Lewis Hamilton might be regretting not trying enough to convince Wolff to keep Bottas. Valtteri was the Briton’s best teammate yet with respect to challenging him for a title or the No.1 seat. He was a sort of wingman, if you may consider.

Lewis Hamilton opened up about his relationship with Valtteri Bottas

There never seemed to be any grudges between Hamilton and Bottas during their time together at Mercedes. Most of it was down to the fact that Bottas never really challenged Hamilton for a title. Whatever the reason may be, the 7X world champion suggested in a recent video uploaded by Mercedes how Bottas was a great colleague. He explained how the Finnish driver walked the fine line of avoiding conflict and never fell out with Hamilton like his previous teammates.

According to the video uploaded by Mercedes on YouTube, Lewis Hamilton said, “Valtteri’s been he was just such a great teammate and colleague. And when I talk about teammates, I think, I don’t know if people really think about it, but. There’s like a conflict of interest here in our sport.”

“It’s always a very, very delicate path to walk down and it’s very, very difficult to. It’s very easy to be on the wrong side and fall out or whatever. Valtteri and I never fell out. We always just spoke on things. He was very much just like he’s gotta do a better job or I’ve gotta do a better job.”
