While the Constructors’ Championship has been pretty deadbeat since Red Bull‘s dominant arrival into the season, things are spicing up as the season approaches its conclusion. In a sport as economically driven as F1, sometimes finishing 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th has massive benefits, relatively. In all honesty, with how McLaren‘s season started with a troubled MCL60, the fact that they are even fifth, right now, in the standings is a win in itself. However, Lando Norris isn’t one to rest on his laurels.

The 23-year-old British star is hungry for more. And if he can’t beat 2x champion, Max Verstappen, he’s more than happy to drag another double champion to the gallows! That’s right, as the 2023 season starts coming to its fag end, there is an intense battle brewing between Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin and McLaren for that lucrative 4th place in the championship.

Woking has been on fire, and it isn’t just the Papaya team’s meteoric rise in 2023. Their rookie, Oscar Piastri, has surprised everyone with how good he’s been this season when matched against a championship prospect such as Norris. Even though, on track, that can become a headache for the Brit, he knows the importance of having a teammate like Piastri when locked into battle with a wily old fox like Alonso.

Talking about their chances at clinching 4th place, which comes with a handy payout of $101,700,000 as prize money, Norris was quoted as saying, “I think our advantage at the minute compared to almost every team, bar a couple, is we have two drivers who are up there fighting for these positions and fighting for these points. Not every team has that at the minute. So I think that’s helping us.”

Despite the handy advantage Norris has over the handicapped Alonso, he is cautiously optimistic.

It is very apparent that with an under-firing Lance Stroll, Aston Martin’s bid to keep 4th place to themselves is hugely hampered. But with how good Alonso has been this season, and a mathematical impediment, Norris isn’t going to gloat just yet.

He continued, “Yes. I didn’t think it was that close. But yeah, if it’s 49 [points] then I definitely think so. There are not many races left. I’m sure there’s going to be a couple where Aston is going to be a bit stronger.”
