Now, the lineup for the sprint on Saturday won’t be determined by Friday’s qualifying. Instead, the sprint race will have its own abbreviated version that will take place on Saturday, and Friday’s qualifying will determine the starting grid for Sunday’s major Grand Prix.
The current predicament has caused the F1 teams to think things through meticulously. The situation that has developed has forced the F1 teams to think carefully. More specifically, McLaren had two disastrous races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia before managing a respectable pace at the Australian GP. He added, “There are also conversations open with the FIA and F1, so this is a collaborative process. Ultimately, we’ll have to find the optimal point for the spectacle, and also for teams to manage parts and to manage the costs in the cost cap.”
The F1 teams have a challenging goal to stay unharmed through the weekends as the season enters a hectic period with five races taking place over the next six weekends. He said, “We will be going to Baku with a sufficient number of parts. They will be backed up for the following race anyhow, to elevate the quantity. So no, it (the Baku sprint weekend) doesn’t set us a specific problem associated with the new parts.”
