Lewis Hamilton with his 7 championships has proved to the world of F1 the incredible talent that he possesses. Since his rookie season, Hamilton showcased his natural skill and talent. However, talent with a poor mentality has led to many drivers having an unsuccessful career in F1. This is exactly why, apart from talent, every Formula 1 driver needs a rock-solid mentality. Thanks to former ally James Vowles, now we have an insight into Hamilton’s mindset.
The now Williams boss sat down for an exclusive with the guys from the High-Performance YouTube channel. In his conversation, he revealed how Hamilton was one of the most naturally talented drivers he’s worked with and also gave a glimpse into the Brit’s animal mentality of winning at all costs.
“Lewis when he joined us was, and still is today, within my Mercedes career the most naturally talented driver that I’ve worked with including Michael (Schumacher). Just so much natural talent! The journey we took him on was, it isn’t ‘we’ll win championships together’. His mentality at the time when he joined us was a brilliant one, I can see why he’s successful but it’s ‘I’m going to win every race at all costs doesn’t matter what the cost is, I’m going to win that race and done’,” explained Vowles.

Hamilton revealed, “I have no set plan for the future. I still feel fit and still enjoy what I do. I have now learned that you should never say ‘never’ in life.”
He added an important piece of information and cleared some preconceived notions as well. “I never said that an eighth title would be the endpoint. And I don’t know what follows after driving in Formula 1,” he added.
