Williams Racing driver Alex Albon has found a rather surprising and humorous approach to promoting his limited edition cream suede shoes from Alex Albon Athletics, his official merchandise store. The Thai-British driver has been intensively involved in charity work, especially with the Wat Sakraeo orphanage in Thailand. Now, he has found a distinctive way to merge his racing career with a cause close to his heart.
Over the past year, Albon has made numerous trips to Thailand, emphasizing his connection to the country as he races under the Thai flag. His connection stems from his former Williams Racing Team Principal, Jost Capito, and Jost’s brother Volker Capito. The latter, after moving to Bangkok in the early 2000s, has dedicated his life to the children of the Wat Sakraeo Orphanage through the Iceman Charity. Needless to say, Albon’s going down that path as well, and at the Abu Dhabi GP, he hilariously advocated for a similar cause.

Alex Albon’s commitment to helping the children at the Wat Sakraeo Orphanage goes beyond just symbolic gestures. Racing at the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix, he showcased a helmet designed by the orphans. The helmet ultimately got auctioned for an impressive $90,000. All the proceeds were directed to the orphanage, specifically for the renovation project of the sports hall. After its completion earlier this year, Albon, with Sky Sports F1 presenter Ted Kravitz for company, inaugurated the Alex Albon Sports Hall. If their conversation in Abu Dhabi is anything to go by, it looks like the Williams driver has inspired Kravitz to contribute to charitable causes as well.

Ted Kravitz recently revealed that he’s auctioning a pair of Alex Albon’s limited edition sneakers from his Athletics collection. The shoes were a gift to Kravitz from the Williams driver. They gained some unexpected (but not unwelcome) exposure when Kravitz wore them on his ‘Qualifying Notebook’ show at the Japanese Grand Prix. The proceeds aren’t for the Wat Sakraeo Orphanage, though. Instead, they’re for the Grand Prix Trust, a foundation that helps everyone involved in F1 with whatever problems they’re facing.
During an interview with Albon at the Yas Marina Circuit, Kravitz told the Thai driver that people had started to bid on the shoes. Since the auction is for a greater cause, he wanted Albon to urge people to bid even higher to help the charity. Albon introduced a surprising twist to the auction, saying, “I wouldn’t want to buy Ted’s smelly feet shoes. But it’s for a good cause. And maybe you have a foot fetish out there and want to smell Ted’s feet. So if you want that, donate, raise the money.“

However, it wasn’t just Ted Kravitz who got Alex Albon’s gift. The Thai-British driver also gifted a few pairs from his new merchandise range to fellow competitors on the F1 grid.

In an Instagram story, Alonso flaunted the sleek design of the sneakers, expressing his appreciation for the thoughtful gesture from the Williams driver. Albon, who has often expressed his inspiration drawn from street culture and the diversity of Singapore, sees this venture as an extension of his identity beyond the racetrack. The sneaker collection is not just an accessory but a way for Alex Albon to connect with his fans on a deeper level, sharing a piece of his personal style and creativity.
