James Vowles was seen as Toto Wolff’s right hand before the Briton made the move to Williams and became the Team Principal at the Grove-based team. Both Wolff and Vowles have their own struggles to fight at the moment. However, the Williams Team Principal used his former Boss Toto Wolff’s Max Verstappen tactics as he continued his attempts to lure Carlos Sainz to join his team. But what did Vowles say?

Toto Wolff was all hands on deck in trying to bring Max Verstappen to Mercedes. The Mercedes Boss regrets not signing Verstappen to his team when he first arrived on the F1 scene and used all tactics in his book to try and bring the Dutchman in as Lewis Hamilton’s replacement. On many occasions, Wolff was seen hailing Max Verstappen suggesting how any team would be willing to sign the 3X champion.

The Dutchman however came out and advised that having a fast car is all he expects from a team and that Red Bull has the fastest one at the moment so no questions of moving teams for him. As Carlos Sainz is only left with Williams and Audi as his 2025 options with Red Bull announcing Perez’s extension and Wolff revealing Kimi Antonelli as the priority, James Vowles took the opportunity to use the same tactic that Toto Wolff used and hailed Carlos Sainz suggesting that any team would be lucky to have him.

The Williams TP has made his intentions clear regarding Sainz. Coming into the Canadian GP, James Viwles fired a feisty statement advising how Carlos Sainz is his No.1 target and that it is now up to the Spaniard to make the decision. Using the Wolff tactic, he said, “Everyone will be fortunate to have Carlos [Sainz]. The number 1 target for us is Carlos.”

The Spaniard now has two realistic choices to choose from with both Red Bull and Mercedes off the table. Where will the Spaniard go?

Carlos Sainz’s 2025 seat Dilemma: Audi or Williams?

With all the front-running teams off the table for the in-form Carlos Sainz, Audi and Williams are the only realistic options left on the table. Looking at the current situation, Williams seems to be the better option with the team on the rise and James Vowles in the driving seat. Vowles has made the intentions clear of making the team a front-runner once again and heavy investments have been made towards the same.

Sauber on the other hand, will become Audi moving into the 2026 season. Audi has a brilliant track record in all the motorsport categories that they have entered with the end goal of becoming champions. F1 will be no different for Audi. However, the German team will not straight away be at the top and will take multiple years to get up there. By then, Carlos Sainz might no longer be in his prime.
