George Russell will race alongside Lewis Hamilton in the 2022 season at Mercedes. The young British driver impressed everyone with his performances in Williams from 2019 to 2021, which included an unlikely P2 in Spa. But many have raised concerns the 7-time world champion might outclass that Russell in 2022.
Many F1 fans are worried by Russell might not perform at the level of Hamilton in his first year with Mercedes. But William’s head of vehicle performance, Dave Robson mentioned that the George is no less than Hamilton.

As reported by Motorsport.nl, Robson that Russell will have to adapt to Mercedes as it is different from Williams. He also stated that his driving style may not be as different from Hamilton’s.
“There is no doubt that he still has more to learn because working at Mercedes is a different story than working for us. But when it comes to his style and attitude, he is absolutely no less than these two [Hamilton and Button],” said Robson.

“His work ethic and the way he brings the team together, along with his skills and his confidence in making decisions, are the real key factors. He has the talent to drive the car.

There are plenty of people who also have that talent, but he also has everything to get the best out of the team and make the right decisions at crucial moments under pressure,” said the Williams head of vehicle performance.
It would be interesting to see how Russell stacks up against Lewis Hamilton. Although it is inevitable that at the start of the season, he may not be on par with his Mercedes teammate. But over the course of the season, it is expected that he will challenge and push Lewis till the end of the season.
