The meteoric rise of Formula 1 isn’t slowing down. For the past few years, the sport has been spreading its wings and increasing its reach to capture a larger fanbase. This increased interest in the sport has opened new doors of opportunities for the sport and Lewis Hamilton has jumped on one. The opportunity Hamilton is a part of, as we all know, is the Hollywood F1 movie. The film will feature Oscar winner Brad Pitt among other celebrated names. Another Oscar winner in the shape of Will Smith could’ve been a part of the movie if he can overcome this simple complication.

Formula 1 is an extremely physical sport and the athletes train hard to stay in shape and withstand the force of the car. This is one of the reasons Will Smith’s casting for the movie is in doubt. The American actor jokingly revealed the reason in an interview with Martin Brundle during the grid walk, as reported by Talk Sport.

When asked if he is part of the upcoming film, Smith said, “I haven’t been asked yet but I would love to.” He then jokingly added, “I might have to work on this gut though, it doesn’t fit in the car too well.

All jokes apart, Hamilton has been hustling for the movie. In fact, he has made it his mission to produce a great piece of cinema for all fans to enjoy. “I have such high hopes for it,” Hamilton said last year as quoted by Motorsport. “I know we’re going to make the best racing movie that’s ever existed, both visually, and we’re going to work on making sure we pull on the heartstrings of all those fans.”

The Brit revealed that he will be highly involved in the creation of the movie. However, all this involvement will be from behind the camera. The owner of Dawn Apollo films production house will not feature in the film crushing the dreams of all F1 fans.

“I don’t plan to be in it, no,” he admitted. However, the Brit added, the movie wouldn’t be possible without real drivers but only for the racing sequences. “It’s going to take us drivers to be involved in [filming the on-track action]. But we’re not actors … We don’t want this movie to be c***, which is probably why I’m not going to be part of it also.”
