Formula One dearly missed “Inspector Seb” as the beloved driver couldn’t make it for the Bahrain GP. The Aston Martin star suffers from Covid-19 and has not been able to return a negative test yet. As fans anxiously await Sebastian Vettel’s negative report, there is still no confirmation of his return. Without Sebastian, Aston Martin did not have the best start to their 2022 season.

Aston Martin wants Sebastian Vettel to return
The Silverstone team heavily struggled with Mercedes engines at the back of their cars. While they had a solid replacement in the German driver, Nico Hulkenberg, he could only manage P17. This wasn’t Nico’s first appearance for the team as he also stepped in for Racing Point (now known as Aston Martin) before as their reserve driver. Although fans are comforted by his return, they still miss Vettel’s brilliance on the track.
In light of this, the Aston Martin F1 team account recently updated the racing fraternity about Vettel’s health. While they clarified that a negative test is yet to be submitted, and Seb actually might be able to drive this weekend. The team has decided to delay the final result till Friday, as they want Vettel to have a chance.
UPDATE: Sebastian Vettel has not yet returned the required negative COVID test to fly to the #SaudiArabiaGP. Nico Hülkenberg will be in Jeddah to deputise for Seb if necessary. We will delay our final decision until Friday to provide Seb every opportunity to race.

Last Sunday, the car was not the most competitive on the grid, and in Vettel’s absence, things were worse. Nico did not have the chance to train at the testing and made a straight race debut. Moreover, the team collected no points as they overall looked uncompetitive. His teammate, Lance Stroll, had a better outing, could only manage P12. This too, however, was a gift as three cars ahead of Stroll did not finish the race.

In the absence of a four-time world champion, and the car not performing, things were bound to become difficult. Team Principal Mike Krack explained, “When we came here every team had its problems, So we were not 100% sure where we were to be honest. We had to work all winter testing around these problems. I think we’re not the only ones. So we didn’t really know where we were. It was a surprise. A negative one, unfortunately,”
